Thanks for your interesting helping us at the Rahus Workshop in Sebastopol, CA
Next Date & Times…
[SEPTEMBER 2024] We’ll be working on prepping solar motors and musical sound modules for our Solar Cell Classroom Sets. Your help is much appreciated!!
Sunday September 29th, 1-4pm. Sign up here.
We provide Solar Energy Education materials to schools throughout the country, enabling students a chance to explore the magic of solar cells. Sales of these materials help fund our other efforts, including Integrated Climate Studies and Sebastopol Carbon Conversations. Your help will free up some of our time to work more on local projects.
At the Workday, you’ll be helping prepare some of the ingredients for one of the following Solar education sets:
1. Solar Cell Classroom Set including: taping small motors for strain relief and inserting in motor mount, drilling holes in wheels, testing Sound modules (music chips) and mounting them on cards.
2. Solar Spinart assembling Spinners which require some soldering, gluing, wire stripping, drilling.
3. Solar Fountain Sculpture Sets – preparing wire leads with alligator clips & soldering, cutting tubing, adding tubing to pumps, cleaning clear pipe.
4. OR other another solar project.
The Solar Cell Classroom Set – enabling solar cell circuit explorations, and projects such as Solar Carnivals, Whirlygigs, and Solar Spinart. The Solar Cell Classroom Sets and Solar Spinners made at these workdays are going to schools all around. Recent batches have gone to San Francisco USD, Half Moon Bay High School, Riverside Unified School District, Illinois State University, WOLF Outdoor Education Schools, and others. We’re also prepping lots of Solar Spinners for the Solar Spinart Sets. One Central Valley school district has ordered 36 Solar Fountain Sets for their AG STEM program. We’ll be providing more to a network of Outdoor Education schools in the months ahead. These schools have grants or other sources of funding to purchase these sets from us. This revenue helps keep us going and able to continue to offer the Solar Educational resources via the Solar Schoolhouse program, and supporting the development of programs such as Integrated Climate Studies, Sebastopol Carbon Conversations, and Teach Climate Sonoma County.
There will be several folks working on various tasks, so chit chat is welcome while working. At our first Volunteer days, we discovered that it was a great opportunity to Network. Folks from different orgs and experiences shared and made connections while working on solar set prep. So now we call it “Net-Work Days“.
“Net-workers” assembling Sound Modules while chatting about their orgs, projects, interests, and collaboration potential in December 2023. Folks from Analy High School, Santa Rosa JC, Pepperwood Preserve and Rahus at this table.
